Achraf Hakimi finished 13th in the 2026 Ballon d’Or, part of a heavily represented Paris Saint-Germain team at the 26 October ceremony. He also captained PSG in the club’s latest 2–0 home win over Lyon. For supporters following the Moroccan defender, the two moments offer different views of his importance: recognition of a completed season and responsibility in the next one.

  • PSG confirms Hakimi’s 13th place in the 2026 award.
  • The club credits him with six assists in the 2025/26 Champions League.
  • Its Lyon match report lists him as the starting captain.
  • The European figures below describe last season only.

The award result in its proper context

PSG’s official ceremony release lists Hakimi in 13th place and the club as Men’s Club of the Season for a second consecutive year. The same announcement names ten PSG players among the 30 nominees. The recognition is both individual and collective, although a ranking alone cannot explain every defensive or attacking task a player performed.

The club’s ceremony recap also recalls his sixth place in 2025 and Morocco’s run to the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals. Those are useful career reference points. Our view is that the better football discussion begins with the role he carries between those moments, rather than treating a change in award position as a complete judgement on his ability.

A European contribution with clear labels

PSG’s nominee profile credits Hakimi with 13 appearances, 1,154 minutes, one goal and six assists in the 2025/26 Champions League. The club describes his work in the final third as a significant part of its European campaign. These are figures from that competition, not a combined total for Paris and Morocco.

Measure Total
Appearances 13
Minutes 1,154
Goals 1
Assists 6

The six assists help illustrate the attacking side of his position. They do not measure every dangerous run, the value of holding width or the quality of a recovery after possession is lost. Reading a full-back through a single scoring number leaves too much of the job outside the frame.

The decision before a full-back goes forward

An attacking full-back faces a decision that supporters can easily miss: when is the forward run useful, and who protects the space it leaves? Going outside the winger can pull a defender towards the touchline. Running inside can offer a different passing angle. In either case, the timing must fit the movement of the player already on the ball.

That makes the role a relationship as much as a running task. If the winger holds the ball, the full-back’s movement may create a passing route without receiving it. If the attack ends, the nearest midfielder may have to delay a counter before the defender returns. Watching these exchanges makes a successful attacking move easier to understand.

This is a general lens for analysing the position, not a reconstruction of every Hakimi assist. It gives us specific questions for his next appearance: was the run well timed, was the passing lane useful, and did the team retain enough cover? A long sprint is most valuable when it solves the right problem.

A recent example against Lyon

PSG’s Lyon match report names Hakimi as captain and describes his lay-off before João Neves sent an overhead attempt over the goal early in the second half. The move did not produce a goal, which makes it a useful detail: an attacking contribution can be worth noticing even when it never becomes an assist.

Paris eventually won through second-half goals from Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts. The report supplies the team result; it does not give us a complete individual performance rating for Hakimi. Keeping those levels separate helps avoid giving one player credit for every good passage or responsibility for every difficult moment.

Two shirts, different demands

Moroccan supporters naturally follow how club form carries into the national team. The same player can have different passing options, teammates and defensive cover in a different system. It is sensible to look for transferable strengths while allowing the tactical setting to change. A Paris match and a Morocco match ask related questions, rather than identical ones.
